Just a Thought

Have you ever just sat down and mused Scripture? Or even the concept of who God is? A Pastor named Bill Hybels once spoke a message about how vision leaks; in other words, picture vision as though it were a large container; now. looking closely at the container, we would see a small drip… drip… drip… coming out of a corner of the container. This is even true for what we read in Scripture, and for what we know about who God is. Consider what the Bible says about the subject:

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does,” [James 1:22-25 (NKJV)].
One good way to keep from being a forgetful hearer is to muse, or meditate deeply upon Scripture. I do not know about you, but I can get pretty busy doing things that have no bearing upon eternity. When I take time to muse Scripture and to muse who God is, I have a very different perspective on things; my concept for what is important changes, and the relationships in my life are greatly enhanced; including my relationship with God.
When I think about the very idea that if I stop musing, my perspective changes back to its old patterns, what I consider important shifts, and the relationships I once enjoyed are somehow tainted they are often diminished by busyness and the lack of focus on good and wholesome priorities. I become like the man who saw himself in the mirror; who walked away and forgot what manner of man he was.
Bill Hybels is right when he says Vision Leaks; any vision! The vision of what we read in Scripture, the vision of who we know God is… the vision of how important relationships (all relationships) are… vision leaks, and continually needs to be filled. So, muse Scripture, muse who God is and the relationship we have together with Him, take time to must other relationships and the bearing you have; or can have, on them. Remember to experience true friendship, one needs only to give of him or herself to be a friend.
